North Cyprus

Villa Tiwi is located between the Besparmak mountains and the north coast of Cyprus, about two miles west of Kyrenia Harbour. (click here for map).

Here are a few suggestions for places to visit in North Cyprus:-

Kyrenia (Girne).

The town of Kyrenia, the largest on the north coast, offers many local shops, restaurants and bars. The focal point of the town is the picturesque harbour which is surrounded by bars & restaurants and is overlooked by the 15th century castle.

Kyrenia Castle (Girne Kalesi) & Museum

Dominating the harbour, the castle was once captured by King Richard (Richard the Lionheart) in 1191 on his way to the crusades. The current castle dates from the 15th century and contains a museum and many displays depicting  the history of Cyprus and the castle.

Saint Hilarion Castle.

Saint Hilarion Castle, built in the 11th century, sits on top of the Besparmak mountains, 730 metres above sea level (2395 feet) and can been seen from the villa. It is split over many levels and steep paths give access to the upper areas which offer spectacular views of the north coast and, on a clear day, the Taurus Mountains on mainland Turkey.

The Karpaz

The eastern peninsular of The Karpaz is probably the most unspoilt and least populated area of the island. It has miles of virtually empty sandy beaches and at it's tip is the Apostolos Andreas Monastery.

Nicosia (Lefkosa)

The only divided city in the world, Nicosia is the capital of the island. It is now possible to cross 'The Green Line' - the United Nations patrolled area that divides the city - and visit the Greek part of the city. A temporary Visa is issued at the crossing point, as an insert to your passport, which enables you to walk the short distance to the shopping areas of the south and return to the north.
